Life Insurance Awareness Month
This September is Life Insurance Awareness month. Take a moment and reflect on your family’s insurance needs and whether those needs are being met. 11 million fewer American households are covered by life insurance today than just six years ago. Is your family prepared to manage on its own?
Life insurance offers families a measure of comforting assurance. It can buy loved ones time to grieve. It can pay off debts and loans, providing surviving family members with the chance to move forward with a clean slate. And it can keep families in their homes, fund a child’s college education, and keep a family business in the family.
Life insurance can do all of the above, but not for those without it.
According to LIMRA, a industry research group, nearly one of every three US households has no life insurance whatsoever. Many are underinsured. And a majority of families are one accident or terminal illness away from financial catastrophe for their loved ones.
We recommend checking the following with your employer:
- What kind of insurance benefit do they offer?
- Do they have the option to increase coverage?
When was the last time you had your life insurance needs reviewed by an insurance professional?
The non-profit LIFE Foundation coordinates efforts to raise awareness. And each September, more than 100 of the nation’s leading companies and industry groups join LIFE in this educational initiative. We encourage you to spend a few minutes on LIFE’s website learning more and trying interactive tools like the Insurance Needs Calculator.
